‘We’re glad to have Danny Ings – to learn from him is great’ – Liverpool FC

Luck wasn’t on Danny Ings’ side in front of goal on Monday night but the striker continues to leave a mark on the high-flying Liverpool U23s team.

The Englishman combined with Harry Wilson in attack against Manchester United as the young Reds won 3-1 to open up a five-point advantage at the top of Premier League 2.

While Wilson joined Ovie Ejaria and Marko Grujic on the scoresheet, Ings was denied by two goalline clearances as he tried to cap off a typically industrious individual display with a strike of his own.

But that personal disappointment aside, the first-team forward can take satisfaction from the influence he is having on Neil Critchley’s in-form group.

“You’ve got to be in those positions to miss them. I’m sure his luck will change soon. We all know what a deadly finisher he is at whatever level he plays at,” Wilson told Liverpoolfc.com of Ings.

“We’re glad to have him in the team, not only for his goalscoring but for his work-rate and the experience that he brings. It’s always great to have him.

“To play up front with him and learn off his movement and his finishing, it’s great for the team.”

The victory was Liverpool’s seventh in eight Premier League 2 fixtures so far this season and represented the ideal response to defeat against Derby County the previous week.

“I thought it was a really good team performance by everyone. We controlled the game for large spells and maybe could have got a few more goals,” added Wilson.

“It was a bit disappointing to concede halfway through the second half but we knew if we kept playing our football we’d be able to score another couple of goals.”
