A deal never materialised with too many pieces needing to be moved in a little amount of time but Lemar is expected to be heading out the door of Monaco in a few months.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool are the leading candidates for his signature.
Jurgen Klopp is still on the lookout for Philippe Coutinho’s replacement after his £142million move to Barcelona in January.
Lemar would undoubtedly further improve Liverpool’s already potent attacking options.
And it looks as though they have made serious ground on pushing through a deal ahead of the Gunners.
That’s according to French outlet Le10 Sport, who claim Liverpool are on the verge of agreeing a fee with Monaco.
The Ligue 1 giants are said to be willing to offload the France international in the summer and Liverpool have made progress with negotiations in recent weeks.
All that is left for Liverpool to do is reportedly agree terms with Lemar and past speculation suggests that shouldn’t prove difficult as he is said to prefer a move to Anfield.
The French winger played a crucial part in Monaco’s title-winning campaign last season, scoring nine goals and providing 11 assists.
The departures of Kylian Mbappe, Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko have hit Monaco hard this season with Paris Saint-Germain running away with the title.
But they remain second in the league in large part due to Radamel Falcao’s return of 17 goals.
