It appears as though the Belgian could be ready to force a move away from Anfield in an effort to get back between the goal posts on a regular basis.
Since moving to Anfield in 2013, Mignolet has – according to Transfer Markt – notched up a whopping 202 appearances for the club in all competitions, and at 30-years-old, he’s undoubtedly one of the veteran members of the Liverpool first team. However, he clearly recognises that at his age, regular football is important – and so a move away appears to be on the horizon.
Our resident Reds wouldn’t be too upset to see him leave, given his recent poor form, but it would certainly be strange to see him at a club other than Liverpool.
This isn’t much of a surprise.
Regardless of the rise of Karius, it seems clear that Mignolet was never going to be Klopp’s long-term plan between the sticks. He just isn’t consistent enough.
It’s tough to see a potential destination for him at a top club England, but a move abroad could allow him the regular football that he craves, unless he chooses to move down the table.
It’s certainly a shame to see how far he has fallen, but on current form, Karius is simply a better choice.
