Sadio Mane suffered a knock in Liverpool’s defeat to Chelsea last weekend and has missed several training session during this week, which makes him a major doubt for the last Premier League game of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.
Klopp couldn’t make any definite calls on that one during his presser, and only said the injury was different to that which Mane suffered earlier in the season which makes it harder to assess.
Liverpool only need a point from this game to secure top-four placement (unless Chelsea win at Newcastle by 0-15) and playing without Mane shouldn’t make the task too difficult. However, the situation underlines (again) the problem of not having a proper backup player that can come into the front three and deliver. It is to be hoped for that the club will sort this out during the upcoming summer, whether by signing a new player or including the likes of Harry Wilson or Divock Origi into the squad. Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke haven’t been able to do that this season, though Ings has been on the scoresheet.
Be that as it may, Mane will hopefully fully recover in time for the Champions League showdown in Kiev on May 26.
