Liverpool haven’t given up hope of Gini Wijnaldum featuring against Manchester United after scans revealed the midfielder has a hip injury.

Wijnaldum prompted an injury scare when limping off during Holland’s 1-0 World Cup qualifying defeat to France with what appeared a hamstring problem.

However, having undergone tests on his return to Melwood, it has emerged the Dutchman instead has a hip complaint.

No timescale has been set on a possible comeback for Wijnaldum, who is undergoing intensive treatment.

And that means Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp hasn’t yet ruled the 25-year-old out of his preparations for Monday’s visit of bitter North West rivals United.

Wijnaldum has become the regular central midfield partner to skipper Jordan Henderson following his £25million summer move from Newcastle United.

Should he not be risked, Klopp is likely to turn to either Emre Can and Lucas Leiva to fill the breach.

Defensive duo Nathaniel Clyne and Dejan Lovren, who both withdrew from international duty due to injury, have resumed training this week and are expected to be available on Monday.

But Adam Lallana remains a major doubt as he struggles to recover from the groin problem that forced him off during the first half of the 2-1 win at Swansea City 12 days ago.

  1. Who’s that Swansea guy in the green boots challenging Gini in the first picture? He looks good, we should probably totally sign that guy.

  2. Okay, so it won’t be 4-1 as I predicted….I’m fine with a 2-1 scoreline.Sturridge and Firmino on target. PS. I give them a goal as you know we can’t keep a clean sheet and they do have some decent attacking options.

    1. if we take our chances, they won’t have much of a chance, but if they keep us out they’ll nick it with a set piece type thing.

  3. Lucas or Can? I really hope Gini makes it for Monday. Lucas is a liability, & Can isn’t fit enough for a big game like this.

    1. Can needs a game or two in the reserves, not confident in his ability to start with the fitness he has showed

      1. He played 20 minutes in the league and during the international break he played the full 90 minutes in the behind close doors friendly, where he actually scored a goal.
