Gomez returns as Liverpool play behind closed doors friendly today
Klopp once again fills up international break with a match at Melwood
Jurgen Klopp’s men are playing a behind closed doors friendly at Melwood today.
Accrington Stanley of League Two will provide the opposition in what has now become a regular feature of the international break.
A game within the international break had been mooted by Jurgen Klopp as a possible first step back into playing for Gomez, who has been out for more than year after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in his knee last October.
The ECHO understands the 19-year-old is definitely playing a part in the game which kicked off at noon, with details of a full line-up hopefully available later.
Klopp uses a mix of first team players not away on international duty – the likes of James Milner, Loris Karius, Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Emre Can, Lucas and Alberto Moreno are all still at Melwood – with some of the younger talent from the Academy for the games.
Even those ranks are depleted however with the likes of Ben Woodburn, Ovie Ejaria and Trent Alexander-Arnold away with youth international teams this weekend.
Bradford and Huddersfield have provided the opposition in the last two international breaks but John Coleman now brings his League Two outfit to West Derby.
There are several players with Merseyside links at the club which currently sits 11th in the table after a 1-0 defeat at Luton yesterday.
