Liverpool youngster ready for another big night

Liverpool youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold is on standby to start tonight’s EFL Cup semi-final second leg with Southampton.

Right-back Nathaniel Clyne is a doubt for the showdown at Anfield as he continues to be hampered by an abdominal muscle injury.

It would be another big night in the blossoming career of the 18-year-old from West Derby.

Alexander-Arnold was handed his first-team debut by Klopp in the fourth round win over Tottenham back in October. He has since gone on to make six senior appearances, including a first Premier League start at Old Trafford earlier this month.

The England international has been unable to train since Saturday’s home league defeat to Swansea City.

Unless Clyne can convince Jurgen Klopp of his fitness then Alexander-Arnold will deputise and be tasked with helping Liverpool overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit and advance to Wembley.
