Hendo stepping up rehab hoping for Everton return

Reds midfielder will step up rehabilitation from foot injury at Melwood this week

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson is ready to step up his rehabilitation as he targets a return for Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

Henderson has been absent from the first team since injuring his foot during training ahead of the visit to Leicester City last month.

However, he was part of a youthful Reds squad that travelled for a warm weather training camp in Tenerife last week.

Now the midfielder will look to increase his workload at Melwood and prove he is ready to back in contention for the visit of Everton as Liverpool look to maintain hopes of Champions League qualification.

Speaking ahead of the trip to Tenerife, Klopp declared he was confident Henderson remained on course for an imminent comeback.

“He can make the next steps here, and then hopefully we can do the next steps when we are home next week,” said the Reds boss. “We will see.

“Having him around is always good.”
