Southampton 0-2 Liverpool- Player Ratings

Not the prettiest but a winning performance at the St.Mary’s which has always been a tricky away ground for the Reds but the deadly duo of Mo and Bobby did the job for the night.

The focus of the game was always gonna be on big Virgil Van Dijk and he couldn’t have asked for anything more. Here are the ratings for the game :

Karius 7- Probably his favourite away ground this as he followed up his great game last season in the League Cup against the same opponents. Karius had a role to play in the first goal and 2 great saves on Højbjerg and Ward Prowse ensured he got a well deserved clean sheet.

TAA 6- As always the youngster was energetic and a attacking threat but showed his defensively vulnerability when he had to deal with crosses but a very very quiet second half for him.

Matip 6- One or two awkward moments but a decent night for him but did nothing special to suggest that he should partner Van Dijk next season.

VVD 6.5- Dominant in the air , calm on the ball , vocal presence and a well deserved clean sheet for the big man. Surprisingly not booed as loudly as expected.

Robertson 6- Weak like Trent when dealing with crosses but always a good attacking outlet and did more than enough to stake his claim for a start at the Dragao.

Can 6.5- Captain for the night and was always going to play the full 90 minutes today given his suspension. Had a ok first half and improved in the second half.

Gini 6.5- Like Can improved in the second half and showed some good pace at times. Seems very shot shy at the moment.

AOC 5- Probably his quietest game in a LFC shirt and was a culprit in the ineffective first half midfield performance snd never showed signs of improvement which prompted Klopp to replace him with Milner.

Salah 8.5- There are not enough words to describe this man. Showed great awareness in setting up Firmino early on and a cool finish to reach 29 for the season. What a signing.

Firmino 8.5- 20 goals in the season and another goal in the south coast for him. He’s shown again why he’s the most underrated player in the league if not Europe and definitely the most crucial player in this team.

Mane 6- His first touch has been off in the last few months and his usual aggressive play was missing again and it’s worrying now.

Milner 6.5 – Added control to the game.

Lallana N/A – If only he’d scored that.

Lovren N/A – I love it when he plays against the Saints.
