Well, I guess we all immediately knew as much. If any story ever smelled of bullshit, it’s this one.
Reports in France suggested that Liverpool are interested in signing non other than Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian would be available on a free if a new contract isn’t offered to him at United. The reports explained this bizarre piece of – well, let’s say “news” – as Klopp’s idea of replacing Emre Can.
Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce has often been pegged as a dream-breaker, with his tendency to quash any rumour that might have caused any excitement among the fan-base. However, I don’t think anyone will hold it against him for this one.
He stepped in pretty quickly, saying that Liverpool have no interest at all in Fellaini. He said it would be hard to imagine a player less suited to Klopp’s style of football, and that Liverpool are more likely to resign Christian Poulsen than to go for Marouane Fellaini.
It would be impossible to disagree.
