Liverpool 5-2 AS Roma: Player Ratings

Well what a night it was for Jurgen Klopp and his men! The reds were 5-0 up at one point and the Liverpool fans were booking their flights to Kiev. But it turns out the tie is not finished whatsoever! Former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko gave Roma a lifeline and a bit of confidence only for the Italians to bag another through Perotti! Lets find out how the Redmen got on in the player ratings…

Loris Karius – 7.2
After a disappointing performance against West Brom at the weekend, The German was back to his best and was reliable throughout despite conceding at his near stick which is always annoying for a keeper.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7.4
For the biggest game of his career so far, the youngster was superb from minute one to ninety. There were a few shaky moments involving back passes but nothing too major. Solid.

Dejan Lovren – 6.2
It was almost a dream night for Liverpool’s Croatian defender when he struck the bar with a header in the first half. You could say it was his fault for Dzeko’s goal but it was a fantastic run by the Bosnian to be fair to him. Decent display by Lovren.

Virgil Van Dijk – 7.7
As per usual, Liverpool’s record signing was solid throughout and dealt with the likes of Dzeko and Perotti fantastically.

Andy Robertson – 8.2
Give this man a medal. Arguably one of the most underrated defenders in English football. Robertson was playing in the third tier of the Scottish League not too long ago and put out a performance to be proud of in the biggest competition in the world. What a player to have in your team.

Jordan Henderson – 9.0
Henderson dealt with Strootman and De Rossi like they were Sunday League players! Completely dominating the midfield not letting anyone past him. Showed great bottle and courage in such a big stage. Well played by Hendo.

James Milner – 8.4
If it wasn’t for a silly handball at the end to keep the tie alive, Milner would be in the mid nines! Liverpool’s veteran midfielder was solid as per usual.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6.0
It is hard to give a player a proper rating when coming of with in injury in the early stages of the game. We wish The Ox a speedy recovery and hopefully can get back to doing what he loves best.

Mohammed Salah – 9.8
What can’t this man do? Scoring a top bins banger against your former club and then having the cheek to dink it over the keeper one on one. Two fantastic assists to add to a fantastic performance. Let’s not compare Salah to the likes of Messi and Ronaldo. Lets compare Messi and Ronaldo to the likes of Messi!

Sadio Mane – 7.2
One of Liverpool’s star men had a night to remember, but also a night to forget! Despite scoring a well taken goal, the Senegalese forward missed two sitters which could have guaranteed the final spot for Liverpool. Disappointing but also a decent performance by Mane, weird one!

Roberto Firmino – 10
Liverpool’s unsung hero led the line like he has all season. With a brace and an inch perfect assists for Mo Salah, Firmino gets my personal MOTM. The Brazilian was rewarded with a well deserved standing ovation by the Liverpool fans when he was substituted off late on. Well played Bobby!

So those were the Player Ratings for the night to remeber for Liverpool fans. Hope you enjoyed and be sure to comment what you think about the game and if you agree/disagree with the ratings i’ve given. Cheers!
