Liverpool midfielder (still) Emre Can will travel with the squad to their training camp in Marbella, Liverpool Echo have found out.
With his contract running out very soon and still no reports of any progress in his contract negotiations with Liverpool, there have been stories of various clubs being interested in his services with Italian champions Juventus at the head of the line.
The German has been missing from action with a back injury since March, and has been in his homeland for treatment. He will, however, rejoin the team for their trip to Spain as they prepare for the Champions League final on May 26 against Real Madrid. He still faces a race to be fit for the event and his condition will be assessed by the club’s medical staff before any decision is made. Meanwhile, he has been left out of the Germany squad for the upcoming World Cup in Russia.
Should he prove fit, Can would be a valuable addition to the squad with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out. Whether he deserves to play is another matter though, but it’s hard to believe Klopp would give up on having him in mind on the 26th because of his contract situation.
The problem there still seems to be the club’s refusal to include a buyout clause in any potential new deal as they stand firm on their player-contract policy. We’ll see what happens in the end, but at the moment it still seems Can’s future lies away from Anfield, regardless of his potential appearance in the final of Europe’s elite club competition.
