Liverpool will begin negotiations with Lyon over the French forward in the coming weeks.
That is according to French newspaper L’Equipe, which further adds that talks between the two clubs have already started, and that Klopp and Fekir have already met.
This is despite Fekir recently distancing himself from a move to the Anfield giants, telling TF1’s Telefoot programme that “I’m not close to Liverpool. I’ll take time to think.”
However with reports suggesting that Klopp has made the Frenchman his No 1 target for the summer, there is every reason to believe that Fekir is heading for Merseyside.
Having led Lyon to a 3rd place finish and thus securing Champions League qualification, Fekir is hot property in Europe. As a result, Lyon has slapped a £60 million fee on Fekir. It’s unlikely be a stumbling block for Liverpool given that they were willing to part with the cash for van Djik’s services in January. This is especially so given that Salah’s injury in the Champions League final exposed Liverpool’s thin squad depth.
Adding Fekir to an already terrifying attack would boost Liverpool’s chances in England and in Europe. Hopefully, a deal can be sealed in the coming weeks and we’ll see Fekir don the famous red jersey soon.
