Liverpool have no interest whatsoever in signing Besiktas centre-back Domagoj Vida, says James Pearce of Liverpool Echo.
Vida struck up a good partnership with Dejan Lovren for the Croatian national team, with the duo successfully stopping the likes of Lionel Messi and Harry Kane on their way to the World Cup final. This prompted some reports by Turkish media that Liverpool were interested in adding Vida to their defensive ranks.
However, Jurgen Klopp has five, potentially six, centre-backs at his disposal for the upcoming season and has absolutely no intention of adding to the number. Somehow he’ll have to cope with having ‘only’ Virgil van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan, Joe Gomez, and possibly young Nathaniel Phillips to count on.
The manager has no worries at all regarding the back line even though Matip suffered a fresh injury in the defeat to Dortmund on Sunday and is set to miss two weeks of training, which effectively rules him out of the Premier League opener against West Ham. With Lovren still absent from the team, it’s likely that the place beside van Dijk in the first game of the season will be decided between Klavan and Gomez.
