It’s a new day (Sunday) and fresh (or just warmed-up) pieces of news, rumours and speculations are finding their way out to the world of those hungry for anything to spice things up a bit.
Mane Staying Put
We’re already used to hearing all sorts of invented stuff about our top players wanting/agreeing to move to Real or Barca. The brain-wheels of the Spanish press are never idle in creating new fairy-tales to maintain the image of their two giants as the only two clubs in the world, and there’s a feeling that if they spent half as much effort into doing some actual journalism, they could get a few sane people to trust them too.
As their ‘Salah demands out’ story went out the window with the Egyptian King signing a new deal recently, they’ve apparently moved on with Sadio Mane as their next favourite to make the switch to Bernabeu. They had even reported that the Senegalese had ‘a deal in principle’ with Los Blancos.
However, when asked about it, according to several sources Mane simply replied that he wasn’t aware of any interest, that he’s about to join his team-mates for their pre-season adventures in the USA, and while he acknowledges Real to be a great team (only a fool wouldn’t) he says he’s fully focused on his team – Liverpool.
Alisson Staying Put Too?
Everything surrounding AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker sparks debate these days. His reported price tag of £70million apparently has “overrated” written underneath, and Liverpool, according to the Echo, have informed his entourage not to expect a bid a long while back, and nothing has changed since then.
With Jurgen Klopp publicly backing Loris Karius after the Champions League final, putting his mistakes 100% down to a concussion (caused by the elbow of Sergio Ramos), most fans have jumped on the wagon and expressed their trust in the German ‘keeper. Unfortunately, for a large number of those, expressing support for Karius equals slating Alisson. Due to lack of any ‘world-class’ saves in the World Cup and a number of bogus stories from the Spanish press about him choosing Real and a deal being imminent, people now use the words “average” and even “crap” to describe one of the world’s finest sweeper-keepers. Albeit, those people mostly admit having seen Alisson play only in the tournament in Russia and the two Champions League games against Liverpool.
The truth is, Klopp needed to decide whether he trusts Karius enough to continue as Liverpool’s No.1, and it seems he already has. If so, there’s absolutely no need to discuss Alisson, Oblak, or any other top goalkeeper that might replace him in that role any further. The only thing that would still need to be settled is whether Danny Ward is trusted enough to be Karius’ understudy with Simon Mignolet likely out of the picture.
But all that aside, Roma Director of Football Monchi says the Italian club haven’t received any offer for their ‘keeper yet, from anyone, and it really seems like he won’t be going anywhere this summer.
Grealish on Radar?
Interestingly enough, Mirror report that Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish has popped up on Liverpool’s radar. With the move for Lyon’s Nabil Fekir seemingly dead, the Reds do need another target for that most-advanced midfield role, but it’s impossible to consider someone like Grealish an upgrade on either Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or Adam Lallana. Even the likes of Wijnaldum, Keita and Milner, who are set to play in deeper roles, would instill more belief in that role that the 22-year-old Villa player.
One for the future? Even that doesn’t seem very likely as Grealish already has a history of controversies, which is something Klopp doesn’t appreciate much in a player.
But to be fair, Mirror do stress that Spurs remain ‘favourites’ for his signature.
Liverpool sources strongly deny interest in Jack Grealish of Aston Villa. Not seen as a player who would add anything in terms of quality or personality. One to cross off the list, if he was ever on it. #LFC
