Mignolet is set to stay
Simon Mignolet, who has been the backup for Karius since the second half of the last season, is set to stay at Liverpool as the deputy for Alisson.
After the Champions League final nightmare and a disappointing preseason swamped by errors, Klopp has temporarily lost his faith in Karius, who was usurped as a first-choice goalkeeper after the arrival of Alisson, and allowed him to join other clubs on loan to regain confidence and bolster experience. Turkish Side Besiktas, who are willing to pay a loan fee of £2.25m, are in a leading position in the chase of Karius. If certain criteria in terms of his performance is met during his loan spell, Besiktas are reportedly obligated to buy him in 2020.
Now the manager of Liverpool are eyeing the stay of Belgium international who has been short of game time for so long, convincing that his professionalism and experience of Premier League would enable him to be a better NO.2 choice in goal than Karius currently. Furthermore, the meltdown of Mignolet’s negotiations with Serie A side Napoli seeking a move to Italy has directly boomed the Belgium international’s desire of staying at Liverpool to fight for a spot in Klopp’s new campaign plans, following Napoli purchasing Ospina who left Arsenal for more regular first team football.
However, sanctioning the move of Karius does not mean that Klopp has been utterly disheartened with him. If Karius can put in an impressive performance during his time at Turkey, the boss of Reds would welcome him into Anfield again to accept the ovation and applause from the best fans in the world.
