Ojo Set for Loan to Reims
Sheyi Ojo is set to move to Stade de Reims on loan, says James Pearce of Liverpool Echo.
The youngster put in several impressive performances during this summer’s pre-season, and he would have hoped to stay and fight for a place in the squad. But with the addition of Xherdan Shaqiri and Daniel Sturridge seemingly fully fit and firing, his game-time would be significantly less than he’d have hoped for. Both the club and the player are keen for him to develop further and for that he obviously needs to play.
In his career so far the 21-year-old made 13 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions and scored a single goal, and he’s had loan spells with Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham. He’s had various injury issues too, but like Sturridge, he seems to have overcome them for now.
Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion both wanted to take the young Liverpool winger temporarily to the Championship, but Ojo is keen on a move to France, to Reims. The French club, who were European Cup runners-up in 1956 and 1959, earned promotion back to Ligue 1 last season and they’re reportedly looking for attacking reinforcements, and they see Ojo as a player that would fit their need well.
