She Returns…

As the World Cup carried on and the silly season of transfers was underway, there was only one thing that occupied my mind: Liverpool FC.

My first and only love had gone on her annual summer break, and for thirteen weeks I was devastated. Not being able to spend time with her while the once-in-every-four-years side love’s attempts at entertaining and taking care of me simply failed to satisfy my needs and desires.

For thirteen weeks I watched how she grew in stature and attracted many good qualities to strengthen her. The qualities that she obtained in the forms of Fabinho, Alisson Becker, Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita, coupled with her existing features in Mo Salah, Mane, Firmino and many others, only served to increase my desire to be with her even more.

As her return date of August 12 approached, I was gripped by the realization that this could be the best year of our lives.

Though a cliché, there was a strong mutual feeling to quell any emotion of confidence that might have arisen from the Summer activities.

When her return date arrived, the emotion could not be contained anymore: the realization that she had arrived overwhelmed all my senses and cognitive functions, to the point where tears would develop and spontaneous chanting of ‘Allez Allez Allez’ would occur.

As I reconciled with my soulmate after her annual getaway, I watched her resume her Job with the simplest of ease: a 4-0 win over big-spenders, West Ham.

To see her complete the work with minimum fuss was sweet and heart-warming; a vindication to stick with her after many years of bad-mouth banter and insults from unworthy and indolent peasants.

Knowing that the entire Football fraternity is raving about my love is something special, for if the legendary Pele tips her for greatness, this shows that she is the one.

August 12,2017 was the day that she opened her 2017/18 account and drew 3-3 with Watford; astute offensively but inept defensively.

A year later, on the same day, she dealt with the job and tightened things at the back, while strengthening her midfield and attacking options.

For almost fifteen years, from the time she gained access to my heart, no other being has rendered me weak in the knees like her and I know that she will continue to set my pulse racing.
