Gini, Henderson & Milner (our unsung heroes)

How often does the dogged midfielder get all the plaudits? My answer to that would be very rarely, but in Liverpool we have not just one but three midfielders who go out and leave everything on the pitch. Gini as we like to call him for one has been ever present in the Liverpool’s line up since the start of the season! He’s been so impressive that Klopp just can’t leave him out of the line up. He’s kept Henderson & Fabinho away from the starting line up respectively for the majority of our matches this season. Last night in our match against PSG it just showed you what he’s all about, pressing PSG and not giving them a second on the ball. Most of his work goes unnoticed just like most defensive midfielders. He can play in many roles in the midfield as he’s so versatile. He played just ahead of the Six last night, on many occasions in the match he was running the wings to take pressure off the defence. When Liverpool signed Fabinho many fans thought that Gini would be the one to make way, but Gini has improved his game tenfold and he’s one of the first names on the team sheet lately.

Liverpool’s captain Jordan Henderson has found minutes more difficult to come by lately with Keita been preferred in the midfield three, but he took his opportunity well last night. Spreading play with quick forward passing and pressing the ball on every possible opportunity. Jordan was everywhere last night, tirelessly running around pressing PSG on every possible occasion. His fitness levels are 2nd to none. It is a myth among some fans that Jordan doesn’t play the ball forward! We can put that to bed right now! The majority of his passes in the PSG match were forwards and to the feet of his own players. Henderson has certainly played himself into starting line up for Saturday’s 3pm kickoff with the Saints at Anfield. It’s hard to see Jürgen Klopp leave him out now.

Last but not least it’s James Milner, my Man of the Match for last nights game. From the first minute he got stuck in, with Neymar feeling the brunt of his tackles. He didn’t give Neymar a minute! Milner is having the season of his life, ever present in the starting line up for Liverpool. What England would give for him to come out of retirement!! But it’s to Liverpool’s advantage that he stays retired. James is one of the fittest player at the club and you’d never think he’s 32 years of age. He keeps himself in great shape on and off the pitch. He’s what you’d call modern day footballer. Players know if they look after themselves with a clean living lifestyle they can prolong their careers by years. If James can continue with this form then who knows what we can achieve this season. The game against PSG just goes to prove what we already knew, that Liverpool will be Challenging on all fronts this season.
