Ben Woodburn Returning to Liverpool

In the summer transfer window the Wales international was subject to plenty of interest from Championship clubs with several teams being interested in bringing him in on a season-long loan. Some of these clubs included Aston Villa and Wigan Athletic. In the end, he accepted an offer made to him by Chris Wilder and went to South Yorkshire to join Sheffield United for the 2018/19 season.

The Blades have been in excellent form this season and find themselves in the Play Off positions, sat in fifth place, and they have previously been first in the league. The good form that they have built has seen Woodburn’s game time become extremely limited. The young lad has only played 7 times for Sheffield this season, which has amounted to a mere 156 minutes of Championship football.

It has been reported by reliable journalist James Pearce, that we can expect him to be recalled in January because of his lack of game time. Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer has recently played twice for our U23s because of his lack of game time at Sheffield United. He started in the 1-0 derby win for the U23s against Everton on Saturday.

While it’s a shame that the loan move didn’t work out for him, it’s a promising sign that the club are taking his development seriously enough to step in and take control of the situation. Here’s hoping that the rest of the campaign can be more beneficial for the youngster as he strives for a future place in the first team.
