Sadio Mane spoke exclusively to James Pearce of Liverpool Echo, and what he said is set to go a long way in allaying the fans’ fears about his new contract not being signed yet.
The club opened negotiations with him over a new deal at the end of last season, and while Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah both penned new deals, Mane hasn’t done that yet.
Asked about the situation, the Senegalese simply replied he was happy and focusing on giving his best for his teammates, manager and fans, and he left the contract matters with his agent.
On Saturday, Mane had a goal wrongly disallowed against Arsenal at the Emirates, but he bears no grudge towards the linesman whose flag deprived him of his eighth goal of the season. Instead, he mentioned his goal against West Ham as an example of things going the other way. That one stood, even though the winger had been offside.
He said the game at the Emirates was a hard one, but a good one, and he expressed his disappointment for not winning it having had more clear-cut chances.
Manchester City have retaken the lead in the Premier League table by thrashing Mane’s former club Southampton, but he says it’s not for Liverpool to think about other teams at this point of the season. There’s a long way to go still, and all they can do is concentrate on the work to be done.
