Liverpool U19s Top Their UEFA Youth League Group
In the final matchday of the group stages of the Youth League, Liverpool faced Napoli. A win and Liverpool topped the group and sailed into the next round, defeat and Liverpool faced the playoffs to get into the next stage of the competition.
In their last match, Liverpool failed to seal top spot after a defeat at the hands of Paris Saint Germain U19s. The Parisiens won 3-2 on their own turf.
Young Portuguese winger, Rafa Camacho, scored the opening goal of the tie in the 34th minute. He recently appeared on the bench for the first team in the 3-1 victory against Burnley.
Napoli’s young goalkeeper parried away a Camacho shot which fell to the feet of Liam Millar. The Canadian coolly slotted away the rebound to make it 2-0 to Lewtas’ side before the break.
Millar had his part to play in the third where he played a nice one-two with Glatzel, who scored a lovely goal that went in off the bar. This goal came just after half-time with the Reds cruising.
Jones got in on the act very quickly after to make it 4-0 to Liverpool after a low driven strike into the bottom left corner.
Glatzel was substituted for former City man Bobby Duncan with seventeen minutes to go. The in-form local lad scored the 5th and put the game to bed. A comfortable win for Lewtas’ side as they now look forward to the knockout rounds and go in search of bringing the trophy to Melwood.
