Liverpool on Alert as Werner Refuses Leipzig Contract Extension
Timo Werner has informed RB Leipzig that he will not be signing a new contract. His current deal expires in 2020, and the Bundesliga side had already expressed a strong stance that they would sell the striker this summer rather that allow the contract to enter its final 12 months.
Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff spoke to Sky Sports in Germany.
“We want to extend it with him, but he has signalled to us that he would rather not extend,” he said.
This development is certain to cause an uproar as top European clubs prepare for the upcoming transfer window. Liverpool, like Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, have been linked with the 23-year-old Germany international in the past, and according to Liverpool Echo, they are on “transfer alert” in view of the situation.
