Manager Jurgen Klopp seems to be giving thought to weeding out unnecessary names in the squad, and Clyne, who spent the second half of this season at Bournemouth, is arguably one of them.

Having arrived in 2015, the former Southampton man quickly established himself as a regular part of the starting XI first under Brendan Rodgers, and kept his place after Klopp replaced the current Leicester City boss. He was often described as the most consistent player in the whole team, and deservedly so as his reliable defensive displays continuously made life hard for opposing wingers.

However, injuries kept him out of the team throughout 2017/18, and young Trent Alexander-Arnold took his chance to impose himself for the spot with brilliant displays. With Joe Gomez, James Milner and Fabinho all more than capable of filling in on the right defensive flank, Klopp gave Clyne a chance to get his career back on track at Bournemouth.

The 28-year-old made 14 Premier League appearances for the Cherries in the second half of the season. With a year remaining on his contract, Liverpool will want around £15 million for his services.
