Liverpool to sign 17-year-old defender Sepp van den Berg

A number of reasonably reliable outlets had reported that Liverpool were interested in signing Sepp van den Berg from PEC Zwolle and faced competition from the likes of Ajax and Bayern Munich. However, Matt Law of The Telegraph now claims the Reds have won the race.

Van den Berg is a highly rated 17-year-old defender, an U-19 Dutch international who was initially the subject of interest from Serie A side Sampdoria, but the Serie A side had a £2.25 million bid rejected in January. However, with his contract about to enter the final 12 months, Liverpool have apparently managed to snap him up for £1.79 million. He made 16 Eredivisie appearances in 2018/19.

The youngster will spend a season acclimatizing and learning, before being given a chance to impress in the first team.
