Liverpool confident of Origi signing a new deal – UPDATE: Contract signed

Liverpool are increasingly confident that Divock Origi will sign a new contract, according to Melissa Reddy of ESPN.

With 12 months remaining on his current deal, the Belgian has been linked with a potential departure from Anfield this summer, though it has been reported that the club were so keen on keeping him for the 2019/20 season that they were willing to risk losing him for free next year.

However, it appears that it won’t come to that. Origi returned to training a few days ago, and he expressed his desire to help the team win more silverware following the Champions League triumph, in which his contribution was absolutely crucial. The negotiations are going well, and the striker, still only 24, believes that there will be enough game-time to go around given the packed schedule which the upcoming season brings.

No doubt the fact that there’s no more Daniel Sturridge there will also help him spend more minutes on the pitch.

The club have confirmed that Origi has signed a new long-term contract, with both Melissa Reddy and Paul Joyce of The Times reporting that there is no release clause in it.
