Liverpool “unsure” on Matip absence

Liverpool defender Joel Matip, who recently signed a new five-year contract with the club, is facing some time on the sidelines due to a knee injury.

The problem initially occurred in Liverpool’s 0-1 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, and though it seemed to have gone away rather quickly, it was reignited in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. Dejan Lovren has stepped into the breach for the moment, though it remains to be seen whether Jurgen Klopp will stick with the Croatia international or give the opportunity to Joe Gomez in the upcoming games.

But as for Matip, reports broke out claiming he was facing up to six weeks out of action, but Liverpool Echo say they “understand” that at the club they are still unsure of the time the Cameroonian will be unavailable.
